My journey began in 2010 when I traveled to the village of Anupshahr in Uttar Pradesh to volunteer for what I expected would be a short visit. Instead, I found myself drawn into the extraordinary work of the Pardada Pardadi Educational Society, a school dedicated to educating girls in one of the most traditional regions of Northern India.
At the Pardada Pardadi Educational Society, girls are discovering a different future. Education offers something generations of women before them were denied-choice, independence, and hope.
Over the past fifteen years, I have returned to the school many times, witnessing firsthand how education can transform the lives of girls who were once expected to marry in childhood and spend their lives confined to household labor. I have watched shy five-year-olds grow into confident young women-engineers, teachers, scientists, and leaders-changing not only their own futures, but the futures of their families and communities.
This book is not only my story. It belongs to the girls whose courage and determination inspired it. Their journeys revealed both the harsh realities many girls face and the extra extraordinary possibilities that emerge when education, support, and belief come together.
