When precious gems, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and other baubles go missing from the houses of the sophisticated, high-born members of British society in the early 1950s, Scotland Yard is on alert and looking for the miscreants.
Social events pull a member of a security team that monitors those things to be on the lookout for anyone who could be the thief. Something has to be done because it is 1953, the year of the coronation of a Queen, and London and its environs are packed to the rafters with tourists, soldiers, and special members of governments of other countries who have come to celebrate the special event. Society is holding its breath. How many other precious gems would be lost to the greedy hands of the thieves? Pickpockets were having a field day--or was it just one thief?
Follow society through foxhunting, racetracks, debutante balls, a grand soiree at an embassy, and a courtroom drama that surprises many. There is shock to the members of Scotland Yard, MI5, and especially to the one member of the security team who discovers that the perpetrator had actually fallen into his arms one evening!
But that was just the beginning...
