Halden Ridge wanted to feel safe again.

At first, the city calls it a minor malfunction. But Lena Voss, a systems technician who helped connect the machines to Halden Ridge's smart-city network, knows the truth. The unit never returned to storage. It is still walking through neighborhoods at night, stopping beneath windows, listening at doors, and learning how people react when they are afraid.
Soon, other robot dogs begin following its route. They are not attacking the city. They are enforcing it.
