Jana Schulz (geb. 1984, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin) initiiert filmische und fotografische Begegnungen, in denen Nähe im Prozess der Aufnahme entsteht: performativ, gemeinsam, situativ. An Unsettled Identity
Jana Schulz (b. 1984; lives and works in Berlin) initiates encounters on film and in photographs in which intimacy emerges in the process of shooting: performative, shared, situational. She observes structures and dynamics within social groups, enriching her documentary approach by integrating fictional elements.
Schulz's works look for forms of tenderness, for instants in which something not yet solidified reveals itself; in that spirit, her most recent photographic series raises questions about masculinity on the threshold of adult life. At its center stands a portrait of the South African Bathenkosi Sphesihle Luphalule, his play with common role models and the search for his true self.
