This is book all about Temporomandibular joint disorders. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), is the articulation of the mandibular condyle with the glenoid fossa of the temporal bone. Both mandible and cranium are the single bones where mandible is a movable and cranium is a stable component, thus the terminology used for this joint is craniomandibular articulation. Temoporomandibular joint (TMJ), is also known as mandibular joint as it is an ellipsoid variety of the right and left synovial joints forming a bicondylar articulation. Besides this, it is also known as ginglymoarthroidal joint.The normal functioning of TMJ is altered by plethora of conditions such as a tumor,muscle spasm, fracture, ankylosis, displaced meniscus etc. Any of the above conditions on the ipsilateral side of the condyle can prevent the normal translation of one condyle and leaving the contralateral condyle unaffected and allowing it to slide forward normally.
