After traveling footloose around the country for a year in a 1978 Volkswagen pop-top camper, Ash returns to California, jobless and ready to accept whatever offer comes her way. Even if the offer is the least desirable of all possible offers-elementary school teacher! But, low on cash, she accepts that most disagreeable of jobs when it is handed to her as if on a silver platter.

But that doesn't stop her peripatetic ways. With every break away from the classroom, be it a three-day weekend or a month-long interlude, "Vagabonda" gears up with a tent or the latest of her succession of small campers, and heads for the great outdoors.
