The orchestral suite Hou Debang is from Feng Gongrang's music composed for the eponymous drama in early 2018. Commissioned for Tianjin University's 120th anniversary, this production was selected for Backbones of the Republic: Project to Promote Eminent Scientists and Prestigious Universities-a national initiative spearheaded by the China Association for Science and Technology. The work pays tribute to Professor Hou Debang (1890-1974), a
pioneering chemical engineer at Tianjin University (formerly Peiyang University) who laid foundations for China's modern chemical industry.

管弦乐组曲《侯德榜》由创作于2018年初的同名话剧配乐整理而来。该剧是天津大学建校一百二十周年原创献礼大戏，是由中国科学技术协会发起的国家级项目--"共和国的脊梁--科学大师名校宣传工程"--入选项目之一， 旨在反映天津大学（原北洋大学）教授、我国著名化工学家、中国近代民族化学工业的先驱与奠基者侯德榜先生的事迹和精神。
