(AMMAC): an introduction to Maria Montessori's thought on the development of the child and the pedagogical principles that sustain the method.

The book travels through four great territories:

  • Introduction to the secret of childhood. Why the psychic child, not the physical one, is the true engine of human development and of social transformation.
  • The path of development and its obstacles. The conflict between adult and child, the natural instincts of the newborn, the sensitive periods, order, intelligence, and the supernatural environment in which the child's spirit builds itself.
  • The education of the child. The origins of the Montessori method, the repetition of the exercise, free choice, silence, dignity, discipline, toys, rewards and punishments, the directives of the educational method, and the spiritual preparation of the Guide.
  • The deviations. Psychic flights, fear, the so-called privileged children, and the work of the adult and the work of the child.

Roxana Muñoz Guevara - President of AMMAC since 1997, Director General of the Centro Educativo Montessori Kalpilli, and a trainer of Montessori Guides in Mexico and abroad - brings together in these pages her own formation under Dr. Cato Hanrath (who studied directly with Maria Montessori) and nearly three decades of classroom practice to offer an essential study tool for Guides in formation, parents, and educators who wish to approach the Montessori method with pedagogical seriousness.
