«Son símbolos de mi biografía: la nieve, los bueyes, las montañas,etcétera. Otros tendrían el mar, los cañaverales, el sol, como paisaje de su historia. Pero la mía es ésta, de esta simbología parte lo quedigo, y surge lo mismo en prosa que en poesía. Ese título, Memoria dela nieve, resume muy bien no solo la poesía sino toda mi obra. Creo,además, que es una redundancia: la memoria es como la nieve, escribessobre ella, y mientras escribes se va derritiendo. Es como si siempreescribiera sobre la nieve, no sobre el papel».
