Deeply personal experiences of motherhood and marriage intertwine with political experiences of mothering and being a woman, where one can hear the "quiet upon quiet of my future." History repeats and reflects - the history of beds, the history of violence, the history of womanhood itself - all embedded with a nature where "the stars shimmer tears" and darkness becomes "Earth's sigh on your skin." A celebration of family in all its messy glory, these gorgeous poems, interspersed with shimmering haiku, share intimate details of Giorgio's life story, as in the wonderful "History of Beds," where beds slept in provide the commentary. This is a marvelous book. These are poems to be swooned over.

Kathie Giorgio's Let Me Tell You, Let Me Sing! is the culmination of a literary life for our unprecedented times. There are poems of the pandemic and of the insurrection, poems that express our fears of random acts of violence and domestic terror. But in between these are poems of immense grace and love. In the poem, "History of Beds," Giorgio writes, "When you're born, you're put in a cage / a mattress surrounded by bars. / And you cry," yet there is comfort all around, too. We are reminded in the poem "Essential," "that the world is a beautiful place . . . / And that compassion and kindness / are essential." I can't think of a more timely and relevant collection than this one.
