Middle Managers as Knowledge Integrators: The term middle management is ambiguous by definition: what does "middle" mean? It can refer to the center of something, it can mean intermediary , or it can convey the notion of being squeezed. From one side, many authors predicted a decline in middle management activities and have attempted to provide recipes that explain what middle managers should do to survive. Conversely, however, recent researches have stressed middle management's strategic roles by illuminating the impact of middle management activities in strategy and change. This book explores the interwoven strategic and tactical processes that middle management uses to integrate knowledge in multidivisional organizations. It adds to the management literature by not only examining the new roles of middle managers but also by explaining the dynamics of these middle managers' roles when pursuing projects.
