Stephen Knapp (Sri Nandanandana dasa) is a 2025 Padma Shri Award winner, the fourth highest civilian award given by the President of India for distinguished service in his field of literature and education. This honor reflects India's gratitude toward individuals like him who have devoted themselves to making Indian culture accessible and respected on a global platform.
He has also won lifetime contribution awards from other organizations, such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, the Hindu Mandir Empowerment Council, Seva International, etc. He is also a brahmana initiated disciple of His Divine Grace Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, being given the spiritual name of Sri Nandanandana dasa. He is presently the author of nearly 60 books on various aspects of Vedic spirituality and philosophy, and Indian history, by which he has tirelessly worked to dispel misconceptions about Indian spirituality and promote its universal appeal. He has done a number of lecture tours across various parts of India speaking at colleges, universities, institutions, and numerous conferences to encourage people to more deeply understand, practice, preserve and protect their Vedic traditions.
He actively supports traditional Indian practices such as Ayurveda, yoga, and meditation as powerful tools for personal and societal well-being.
