Anatomy is the key to the choice of an impression technique in dentistry. A study of the anatomy of the mouth reveals the possible extent of the dentures, as well as the location of the structures that are covered by them. It is necessary that the impression surfaces of dentures conform perfectly to the tissues which support them, in order that the maximum retention and stability may be obtained. Every prosthodontist has his own concept of the principles and practices in prosthodontics. Impression techniques and materials used in dentistry, have come a long way since the early times, where it was just an attempt to record the tissues without the knowledge and appreciation of the anatomy, physiology and microbiology of tissues being recorded, to a more scientific, well documented, biologic impression making followed today. Hence, an attempt has been made in this book to give a detailed overview of various impression procedures used in CD, RPD and FPD.
