Jesus embraces his mission to communicate the kingdom of God, as the Son of God in the midst of people, as a Jew for all peoples. The Gospel responds to a profound crisis of society and church, which is brought to a head by the Jewish War. It reveals the topicality of Jesus's preaching: Faith colors all areas of life because, by following Jesus, it unites the saving relationship to God with social responsibility for one's neighbor. This orientation develops in the tradition of a living community, which Mark summarizes and maintains. The Gospel of Mark is interpreted as a fundamental testimony of personal Christology, which has had a lasting impact on the image of Jesus and continues to stimulate discussion of him to this day.
