Bloodlines is one poet's exploration, through dreams, visions, imagination, and perhaps collective memory, of his relationship with the ancestors-the known and the unknown-those who left cave-homes, left cave-paintings like snap-shots of their lives and the creatures they shared those lives with. From flint knapped stone tools and crude huts to complex cities those ancestors gifted all of us voices of stone. Stop. Listen. They still speak and sing to us.
More recent ancestors left us names and stories easier to connect with, but no less complicated and mysterious on the genetic level. They all made us who we are, we learn, whether they lived thousands of years ago or join us at our Sunday table, their blood mingled and thrummed through numberless veins to finally flow in ours. Whether we have a hand print or a finger print to go on, we have a clue, these poems show us, how we became who we are.
