For many of us, the word "Apostle" brings to mind twelve men who walked the earth over 2,000 years ago, laying the foundation of the early Church. And yet, for men whom Jesus promised would miraculously heal the sick by the laying of their hands (Mark 16:18), the names of all twelve are not even recalled by the average Christian. Why is so little information revealed to us in the Scriptures about most of these Apostles? Furthermore, what does their apostleship have to do with our own lives today?
26 Steps with the Apostles: A Journey into Christian Mission will explore these questions, while taking an in-depth look into the lives of the Apostles. We will discover:
* How the mission of the early Apostles extends far beyond the original Twelve
* Why their apostolic mission is not so different from the one which Jesus Christ calls each of us to in our own lives
* How imperfection and apparent failure are an important part of the apostolic journey
* Why it is that the less qualified we feel, the more qualified we have the opportunity to become
So let us roll up our sleeves and get to work on our apostolic mission, doing "whatever" it is that Jesus "tells" us to do (John 2:5). In this way, we will imitate the Apostles in spreading the Good News of Christ's life-saving love and mercy to the world around us, one soul at a time.
Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)
